How did we merge two Atlassian instances within the framework of a corporate fusion?

Context and Challenges

We worked on a merger between two subsidiaries of a leading energy group in order to harmonize their distinct Atlassian environments. The challenge of this project was to simplify collaboration and communication between the teams, while optimizing the costs associated with the tool.

Positive Thinking Company’s support, therefore, met the following objectives:

Our approach

In order to complete the merger, the Atlassian / Agile Delivery Center team observed several preparatory steps.

  1. Audit of tools: recommendations for the scope of migration and migration methods
  2. Tools updates: upgrade of all instances and tools in order to prevent security breaches and prepare the merger
  3. Preparation of the target environment to host the data: users, settings, system verification, plugins, etc.
  4. Creation of a test environment ISO target environment
  5. Planning of migrations

At the end of this first phase of preparation, the realization of the project could be started. The team migrated the Confluence spaces and Jira projects, before adjusting the various plugins.

Finally, Positive Thinking Company’s intervention ended with a follow-up and support service.

Benefits

Thanks to the expertise provided by our teams, 60 Confluences spaces, 32 Jira projects and numerous streamlined plug-ins were migrated without any loss of data. The key to this project? An easier and more secure administration of the Jira tool as well as an optimization of the maintenance and licenses. The SAFe solution was also implemented. Finally, the teams supported benefited from training that enabled them to become more autonomous.
