Key challenges
Our client is a global private bank operating in all the regions across the world. Each region runs its own information system with its own solutions. As a result, the bank is not able to consolidate information coming from the different regions.
In particular, clients enrolled in different regions are managed independently. There is no consolidated view available to the business departments. This have an impact on several business processes such as the Portfolio management, the Client Onboarding, the Fraud and AML (Anti-Money Laundering), the KYC (Know Your Customer) and Customer Due diligence, the Investment Recommendation and the Marketing analytics.
Therefore, our client wanted to have a global and consolidated view of its customer data in order to improve the quality of its services and meet all compliance requirements.
Our approach
In order to meet our client’s expectations, we took in charge the implementation of a global data platform, including a governed data lake based on the Hortonworks technology stack. We thus:
- Interviewed the application owners (or product owners) in the different countries, on both functional and technical aspects.
- Built the complete data lake infrastructure and uploaded customer data into it.
- Created dedicated data marts (e.g. Finance and Customer) on top of the data lake to ensure the high performance of the data distribution.
- Implemented a data catalog to enable the appropriate knowledge and governance of data (anywhere in the world). We also implemented a security layer known as “data masking” in order to anonymize the data according to the user profiles who intend to access it.
- Developed a Data-as-a-Service solution by creating a Rest API that facilitates the data distribution into every system.
Benefits
- Consolidated 360 view on operational data including customer data improving business processes accuracy and effectiveness.
- All the data is accessible in one central repository which reduce data integration time and cost.
- Functional and business meta-data, including data lineage are available for all data elements of the data lake.
- New data-driven capabilities improving many business processes such as the Portfolio management, the Client Onboarding, the Customer Due diligence or the Investment Recommendation.
- New advanced analytics capabilities with the implementation of several machine learning use cases in Finance and Marketing.
